On Saturday, May 28, Team Abaco joined over 100 Special Olympic athletes from Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, and New Providence to participate in the Annual National Track & Field Meet.
Reaching for success with every stroke, 11-year-old Serena Newton from Man-O-War Cay battled her way through an Olympic-sized talent pool to victory.
A team of 22 students from the Every Child Counts School participated in the Special Olympics held on the old Robinson Road Track in Nassau on May 31. They returned victorious the following day sporting their medals. A large number of medals and ribbons were won, many of them gold and silver and most of the athletes placed in more than one event, some in as many as four events.
