    Two Arrested in Connection with Illegal Landing

    Two Bahamian men were arrested and charged before Magistrate Ancella Evans for Assisting Illegal Landing in connection with the Haitian Nationals who were found entering Abaco on Sunday October 5.

    Abaco Club Sale to be Determined Soon

    In under a month the Government of The Bahamas will make its final decision regarding the sale of The Abaco Club on Winding Bay. This was according to Minister of State for Investments Khaalis Rolle who spoke at the 2014 Abaco Business Outlook.

    Bahama Palm Shores Community Meeting Addresses Crime

    In light of the recent break-ins and thefts of personal property at Bahama Palm Shores, a community meeting was held at the High Banks firehouse on August 12. Presenting at the meeting were Chief of Police for Abaco Superintendent Noel Curry and Detective Farquharson from the Central Police Station along with Sgt Darville of the Sandy Point police station. Residents and local government officials travelled from Cherokee Sound, Casuarina Point, Crossing Rocks and Sandy Point to join the people of Bahama Palm Shores at this meeting. Also in attendance was Administrator for South Abaco, Lavon Harris Smith.

    July 10 marked the 41st Bahamian Independence Day. South Abaco residents celebrated the holiday with church services, music, food, and more.

    Fifteen persons who were elected in the recent local government elections to serve in the District of South Abaco were sworn in on June 27 by Ms. Lavon Harris- Smith, Administrator for South Abaco.

    Bahama Palm Shores break-ins rattle community

    "Hell Night at Bahama Palm Shores" is how resident, Don Wood, described the night of June 26 and early morning hours of Friday, June 27. During that time six homes were broken into and a large amount of goods stolen.

    Cherokee Quilt and Handicraft Show brings community together

    The community of Cherokee Sound added one more feather to its cap on Whit Monday, June 9, when it hosted a Quilting Exhibition and Handicraft show in the community centre. Cherokee Sound is noted for its very interesting and varied shows which, over the years, have included art shows, sea shell exhibitions, dolls, teddy bears, angels and nativity shows.

    Forest fires threaten South Abaco settlements

    Casuarina Point and surrounding areas recently experienced severe prolonged forest fires. For three or four days the flames blazed relentlessly and for several more days the area was still smoking with patches of fire. It is believed that the fire broke out at the site of the old dump located on the side road between Casuarina Point and Big Mangrove Road.

    Town meeting held in Sandy Point

    A Town Meeting was held in the J.A. Pinder Primary School at Sandy Point on May 29 for all Council Chairmen from South Abaco to present an end-of-term report on what had been achieved in their townships during their past three year term. This would be the final meeting before the three-year term of all councillors came to an end on May 31.
