Regatta Time in Abaco, a series of sailboat races, successfully held its 42nd event from June 23 - 29, 2017. This event brings sailors as well as hundreds of land-based visitors to Abaco who enjoy the races and shore parties held nightly at various resorts in several towns. This is Abaco’s largest tourism event and takes visitors from Hope Town in the south to Green Turtle Cay in the North.
It was another successful year for the Cheeseburger in Paradise Event held on Fiddle Cay, with an estimated attendance of nearly 3,000 cheeseburger loving partygoers.
The fortieth anniversary of Regatta Time in Abaco concluded on July 9 with sailors and land-based followers leaving well satisfied with the event. Our resorts, marinas, cart rentals, restaurants and others that service our visitors all appeared to have had a banner week. Rooms were full, rental carts and boats were all rented out, restaurants were ordering additional supplies and airlift was at full capacity.
Right on the heels of the first day of summer in Abaco and spread between the American and Bahamian Independence Days came the 40th Annual Regatta Time in Abaco (RTIA) bringing together about 50 boats from The Bahamas and around the world to compete in a series of races starting in Green Turtle Cay and ending at Hope Town.
Possibly the largest beach party to be held annually in The Bahamas, Bobb and Patricia Henderson’s Stranded Naked Cheeseburger in Paradise Party took place on July 3 – the official party to launch the Regatta Time in Abaco (RTIA) races.
With 31 boats registered for the 39th Regatta Time in Abaco (RTIA), Race 1 took off at Green Turtle Cay on July 4 with variable winds and the promise of rain. The RTIA, Multihull and PHRF course covered 14.9 nautical miles, and the Mother Tubs – 8.4 nautical miles.
Regatta Time in Abaco is once again planning its 2014 series of races and social events. This will be the 39th consecutive year for bringing hundreds of visitors to the island. The races will begin on the 3rd July and continue through July 10th. The five races will begin in Green Turtle Cay and will continue through Central Abaco to end in Marsh Harbour on the 10th.
