Young artists of Hope Town gathered in the same yard that Chloe played in, to paint beautiful scenes on the empty canvas of the dog shelters. Although the task was taken on with love, there was also an air of quiet solemnity amongst them. The opportunity to be a part of commemorating Chloe’s memory, meant much to them.
The North Abaco Potcake Rescue team, New York based Potcake Advocate, Evelyn Vaccaro and the family and friends of Chloe Kotval have recently joined hearts and hands across an ocean, in memory of this very special girl. Chloe passed away on Feb 14th 2017, devastating families across her home town in Ottawa, Canada and far south to the communities of Hope Town where she vacationed with her family.
The special screening of “It’s A Potcake Life”, a documentary produced by Evelyn Vaccaro of Vaccaro Creative Productions, New York, was a grand success. The event was held at the Abaco Inn on Elbow Cay May 15th, 2016. With a breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic rolling across the beaches on one side, and the twinkling harbour lights on the other, the venue was a perfect complement to the launch this special film.
The highly anticipated Potcake documentary, ‘It’s A Potcake Life,’ filmed and produced by New York producer, Evelyn Vaccaro of Vaccaro Creative Productions, and co-produced by Angie Pattusch of North Abaco Potcake Rescue, with an original music score by classical pianists Stephen and Kristina Segarra, has reached completion. A special screening event will be held under the stars at The Abaco Inn on May 15, 2016 at 8pm.
New York City based actress and media content director/producer, Evelyn Vaccaro, of Vaccaro Creative Productions, and Wendy Shankin- Cohen, CEO and President of Dr. Harvey's fine health food and all-natural products for companion animals, teamed up to begin a journey of good will that launched them from NYC to Abaco. What compelled this mission of love was a collection of rather endearing and often unfortunate residents of these islands, the Royal Bahamian Potcake.
During the July 4th weekend, Scotland Cay held the Inaugural ‘Scales For Tails’ fishing tournament to benefit the Abaco Shelter. The event was hosted by Marlana Bethel and Kelly Wissing and assisted by other volunteers who work with the Potcake rescue effort.
A Bingo evening fund raiser was organized by the Abaco Shelter to help with the expenses of the up-coming Spay / Neuter Clinics. It was a very popular function, well attended by many boaters and second home owners, some even accompanied by their furry friends.
October is observed as 'Adopt a Shelter Dog’ month' in the United States and so this is a very appropriate time to give thought to be animal shelter here on Abaco. Sadly, too many people abandon their dogs which are often not spayed or neutered. They reproduce in large numbers and live malnourished lives on the streets.
The Animal Shelter will be holding a Spay and Neuter Clinic on October 24, 25 and 26 at Dr. Derrick Bailey’s Island Veterinary Clinic next to Abaco Hardware. This service is absolutely free to any persons with dogs who cannot otherwise afford to have these animals spayed or neutered. Persons are encouraged to bring in their own pets and inform the clinic or Abaco Shelter of any other dogs they know of that need bringing in.
