Four members of the faculty of Social & Educational Studies at the University of The Bahamas came to Abaco to conduct a two-day workshop for local teachers.
On Sept 8, 2016, the 50th Anniversary of International Literacy Day, members of the Rotary Club of Abaco visited several schools across the island to read to students and present teachers with a bag full of supplies.
On May 26, students, teachers, administrators and parents of Central Abaco Primary School (CAPS) embarked upon the school’s Literacy Week, which was highlighted by the Annual Literacy March to “Declare War on Illiteracy” as this year’s theme.
Students and staff members of Central Abaco Primary School (CAPS) participated in a Literacy March in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Abaco and the Rotary Club of Abaco on April 14. Each grade level wore a different coloured shirt to promote the “One Book, One School” message.
September 8 was celebrated internationally as World Literacy Day. The Rotary Club of Abaco, focusing on the theme “New Generations” for the month of September, found it the perfect opportunity to outreach to the youth and community. Throughout the day members of the club visited several schools throughout Abaco to read to students in their classrooms.
