The Abaco Judo Club held their annual promotions on October 7, giving special recognition to Desmond Bootle Jr. for attaining his black belt and naming the Most Improved and Most Outstanding Judoka for the year.
The Judoka from Abaco made their contributions to the overall medal count with Desmondo Bootle getting the first gold medal in the Under 21 90+Kg division. He was followed by Desmond Bootle in the Under 21 60Kg division with another gold medal.
The Bahamas Judo Federation announced its full team of athletes for the inaugural CARITFA Judo Tournament which includes 37 Judoka which includes four from Abaco.
In what is described as the “most successful month ever” the Bahamas Judo Federation won 25 medals total during the month of February as they sent fighters to two international tournaments.
The Abaco Judo Club brought another successful competition year to an end in November with two of the club’s members competing at the 16th Barbados Invitational Tournament which was held in Bridgetown.
The Abaco Judo Club made a donation to Forest Heights Academy’s Interact Club to assist in relief efforts for persons affected by Hurricane Matthew which impacted the Bahamas in early October.
On February 13th four members of the Abaco Judo Club competed in The Cherry Blossom Open in Boynton Beach Florida bringing home two gold, three silver and one bronze.
On July 18-19, 2015 a team comprised of fourteen Judoka (practitioner of Judo) represented The Bahamas at the United States Junior Judo Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Abaco Judo Club announced the Abaco Team on May 21 that will be attending the 2015 Jr. US Open Judo Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in July as they seek to begin fundraising initiatives to assist the team in representing in The Bahamas.
On May 2, ten members of The Abaco Judo Club competed in Nassau in The Bahamas Open Martial Arts Competition (BOMAC). After an afternoon of strong competition, the team was able to win five silver and five bronze medals.
