    US Air Cargo Companies to Boycott Over New Customs Laws Unless Changed Soon

    While couriers and freight forwarding businesses are the focus of a number of new regulations and amendments in the Customs Management Regulations Act (2016) there is already growing concerns coming from US air cargo companies which may lead to the suspension of services to the islands of The Bahamas.

    The Out Island Encouragement Act was brought online July 1, 2015 and is scheduled to run for one year. The Act is designed to give Duty exemptions on materials used on new home construction or existing home renovations.

    $500,000 Customs Theft Case Closes with No Suspects

    A Police investigation into how around $500,000 allegedly went missing from the Customs Office in Marsh Harbour sometime in May of this year has come to a close with no suspects brought in. The investigating officers in Nassau were contacted but up until press time no answers were given.

    $500,000 missing from Abaco Customs: Desposit “disappeared” on way to bank

    According to Abaco Police, and confirmed by North Abaco MP Renardo Curry, around $500,000 has gone missing from the Customs Office in Marsh Harbour. The matter is before police, but no suspects are in custody as print time. The Central Detective Unit has launched an investigation.

    Ryan Pinder Visits Manufacturers

    With a view to better support and encourage manufacturers in Abaco and The Bahamas, Minister of Financial Services, the Hon. Ryan Pinder, brought welcome news to producers that the Industries Encouragement and the Tariff Acts have been amended and that they will be setting up a standards bureau. Mr. Pinder visited a variety of local manufacturers and producers on September 10 including Albury Brother’s Boat Builders, Albury's Sail Shop, Abaco Big Bird and Abaco Neem, in order to get “an understanding of the concerns and also the opportunities that exist for these local manufacturers.”
