Beautiful weather greeted the participants and audience of the 18th Annual Big Hill Boxcart Derby on November 26, as the spectators were witnesses of an historic day with the first ever all female final for the Adult Downhill and the first ever female overall champion.
Elbow Cay’s popular Box Cart Derby took place on November 28. The races take place on Big Hill on the road south of Hope Town. For the fifth year in a row, Otis Christian Wilhoyte took the overall prize.
Blue skies greeted participants of the 16th Annual Big Hill Boxcart Derby on November 29, and the races went off without a hitch to the delight of the many spectators gathered.
Intermittent rain forced the 15th Annual Big Hill Boxcart Derby to get off to a late start on Nov. 30, but the wet weather did not dampen the spirits of the participants and those who came to watch the much-anticipated event.
Friends of the Environment is hosting its fourth annual Lionfish Derby in Marsh Harbour, Abaco at the Marsh Harbour Marina and Jib Room on Saturday June 15. Lionfish have become a major threat to the marine resources in The Bahamas. Although this fish is here to stay, derbies such as this one are a way to help maintain local populations and generate awareness about this voracious predator.
