The best and brightest of Abaco’s Basketball community put on a high-flying spectacle for the Abaco Basketball Association’s annual night of competition on February 18, 2017. Basketball Enthusiasts on Abaco turned out in their numbers at the Ocean View Park to take in the sights and sounds of the fierce three-point shoot and highly contested Slam Dunk competitions!
Thousands of visitors and locals came together to enjoy yet another grand display of colours, rhythm and dancing on February 21 and 22 as the annual ‘Love Rush’ Junkanoo parade concluded with two three-time winners. The Spring City Rockers took first in the Senior Category and Forest Heights Academy took First in the Junior Category.

Blood Drives at Abaco’s Cooper’s Town Clinic and the Marsh Harbour Parish Hall on the pre-Halloween weekend garnered a large number of willing participants for a record total of 70 donated pints of blood for the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH.) The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) and a medical team from PMH saw a massive turn-out for their October weekend Blood Drive organized to help restore low levels at PMH. To encourage a healthy turnout, BTC gave away phones, phone cards, tablets and refreshments.
BTC, in an effort to reach out to its business customers, organized a complimentary breakfast for invited guests on March 1. Present from BTC were CEO Geoff Huoston, Marlon Johnson – VP of Marketing and Communications, Gershan Major – VP of Channels and Marketing, and many others among BTC’s “Enterprise Team.” The breakfast was held Below Decks at Abaco Beach Resort.
On Nov. 10, the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) opened the doors to its newest flagship retail store in Marsh Harbour. Hundreds attended the opening with hopes of purchasing advertised phones that included the iPhone 4s that were on sale and in limited numbers.
The Bahamas Telecommunication Corporation is in the process of going through a few major changes. A new customer service location is being built and a new technical manager has been hired for a period of at least three years. On June 18, Trevor Turnquest moved from Grand Bahama to take-up the position of Bahamas Telecommunication Corporation Technical Manager for Abaco and the cays.
