Pressing onwards in his young boxing career local Abaconian, Glovens Escarment, won his second contest at the 23rd annual Wellington “Sonny Boy” Rahming Silver Gloves Championships on May 28 at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.
Glovens Escarment is a young man with dreams of one day becoming a professional boxer, so today he is patiently training and seeking ways to climb the amateur boxing circuit ladder as he represents Abaco and hopefully in the future, The Bahamas.
The Abaco Boxing Team is getting ready to travel to Nassau next month to participate in the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament. The tournament is organized by boxing champion Ray Minus and is scheduled for October 13.
Basketball, swimming and track are among the most popular sports practiced on Abaco, but for the last few months Coach Daran Miller has drawn the attention of a group of young men who enrolled in his daily boxing training sessions. When he first started at the beginning of the year there were less than ten students. Now twenty young men have registered for Coach Miller’s boxing training.
