Excellent fishing highlighted this year’s Bahamas Billfish Championship. The boats participating in the four leg series released a total of 105 billfish – 51 blue marlin, 34 white marlin and 20 sailfish. Of those releases the 2016 Championship winner, team ‘Uno Mas,’ released eleven blues, four whites and three sailfish.
The Marsh Harbour Championship, leg 3 of the 2016 Bahamas Billfish Championship, was held last week at Abaco Beach Resort. Leg 2 winner, team ‘Uno Mas,’ put another BBC tournament in the win column.
The Boat Harbour Championship, leg two of the 2016 Bahamas Billfish Championship, was held last week at Abaco Beach Resort. Winning team Uno Mas wasted no time in finding the fish and releasing a grand slam to earn them the $5000 Grand Slam bonus on day one.
The Guana Cay leg of the 2016 Bahamas Billfish Championship went off without a hitch last week, concluding with an exciting awards dinner at Sunsetters restaurant at Orchid Bay Marina where ‘Bamboo,’ owned by Bill Canida, took top honors. ‘Wave Paver’ (owned by Jr. Davis and captained by Russell Sinclair) and ‘Sandrita’ (owned by Kevin Fish and captained by Kyle Sherman) took second and third place, respectively.
The 2015 Bahamas Billfish Championship (BBC) concluded this year with the Boat Harbour Championship Leg in Marsh Harbour. The tournament’s overall champion was Jr. Davis with the boat ‘Wave Paver.’ The Marsh Harbour leg ran from June 10-13. The BBC started late April with the Guana Cay Championship.
The second leg of the 2015 Bahamas Billfish Championship recently wrapped up down in rustic Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos and it was a great fishing tournament, not to mention a good time!
The Guana Cay leg of the 2015 Bahamas Billfish Championship went off without a hitch last week, concluding with a raucous awards dinner at Sunsetters restaurant at Orchid Bay Marina where Jichi, owned by Luis Isaias and captained by Eugenio Lebron, took top honors. Wave Paver (owned by Jr. Davis and captained by Russell Sinclair) and Torta (owned by Joe Posillico and captained by Artie Meadows) took second and third place, respectively.
Wave Paver rolls over competition in last five minutes to win 2014 Bahamas Billfish Championship Series
With just five minutes remaining in the 2014 Bahamas Billfish Championship, Wave Paver hooked a blue marlin. A minute before that, Jr. Davis and his team were in second place for the overall championship title. This blue marlin release would earn Wave Paver 600 points and a second place finish for the Marsh Harbour Championship and 500 bonus points to go along with that. Those points combined pushed Wave Paver above then leader Marlin Darlin for the Championship win.
No one enjoyed the first ever Bahamas Billfish Championship tournament at Green Turtle Cay more than Joe Possillico, owner of the winning boat Torta. Joe had a great three days of fishing for Team Torta. The 61’ Viking from Farmingdale, New York released three blue marlin, one white marlin and a sailfish to clinch victory in the second leg of the 2014 Bahamas Billfish Championship. Team Torta released fish each day of the tournament to earn a total of 2100 points.
Anglers Greg Smith and Dan Stacy had a great three days of fishing for Team Blue Sky to win the Guana Cay Championship. The 56’ Viking from Pawley’s Island, South Carolina released three blue marlin, one white marlin and one sailfish to clinch victory in the first leg of the 2014 Bahamas Billfish Championship series. Team Blue Sky released fish each day to earn a total of 2100 points and put them in the lead for the 2014 Bahamas Billfish Championship.
