    Abaco Central Celebrates Commonwealth Day

    A more formal setting within the campus was the venue of this year’s Commonwealth Day Celebration at Abaco Central High School. Five tents for visiting guests, students, music band and a podium, as well as rows of extra chairs had been arranged in a quadrant in the parking lot.

    ACH Students Begin Baking Battle

    Abaco Central High School (ACH) Teacher Ruby Rolle spearheaded a Baking Competition dubbed “Battle of the Cakes” at the school on Feb. 25. Although the competition was open to the entire school, only 10th grade students participated.

    BIBT Donates Laptops to ACH

    The Bahamas Institute of Business & Technology (Formerly known as the Success Center for Extended Studies) that has been offering Associate Degree Courses on Abaco for the last several years, donated two laptops to Mr. Ricardo Ferguson, Principal of Abaco Central High School, as an expression of gratitude for the use of the campus.

    ACH Students Find Success in Nassau Eureka Science Competition

    Two ninth grade students from Abaco Central High School made their principal, Mr. Ricardo Ferguson, proud when they placed first in the junior division of the Eureka Science Competition.

    Junkanoo Group Traveling to Nassau in December

    The Abaco Central High School Junkanoo group, the Marlins, will travel to Nassau on December 11 to participate in the Junior Junkanoo Parade to be held the following day. Abaco Central High School is the only high school from Abaco to participate.

    Gentlemen Club Recruits Students

    A Gentlemen Club was created at Abaco Central High School at the beginning of the school year by advisors Vincent Coakley, Ishmael ”Stretch” Morley, Christopher Wright, and Reverend Charles Carey. The club exposes students to a different behavior style, such as etiquette and proper manners. The advisors are hoping to guide these young adults toward a more productive and safe lifestyle.

    Students Compete in District Speech Competition  

    A District Speech Competition was held for students of grades 10-12 at Court #1 at the Bahamas Government Complex on Oct. 16. Students from Abaco Central High School (ACH), St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, Long Bay School, S.C. Bootle High School and Forest Heights Academy (FHA) participated.

    Rotary Presents Computers to ACH

    On October 14 the Rotary Club of Abaco presented ten computers to Abaco Central High School to furnish the school’s computer lab. The computer donation was funded by a District Grant which the Club applied for.

    Island Luck Donates Computers to Public High Schools

    Pietro Burrows, manager of Abaco’s Island Luck office locations, travelled to S.C. Bootle High School on May 14 to deliver 10 computers. Principal Huel Moss accepted the computers and accessories on behalf of the school, and expressed his gratitude to Burrows for the donation.

    Teams Fought Hard in Sherwood Simms Basketball Championship

    The Abaco Central High School Marlins have won the Sherwood Simms Basketball Championship in two age categories. The thirteen to fifteen age group Marlins beat the Zion Cathedral’s Knights 29-24 and the Change Ministries’ team 34-30 in the sixteen to nineteen age group. Change Ministries defeated the Zion Cathedral’s Knights 18-15 during the first game of the evening in the nine to twelve group.
