BBC Kicks-Off 40th Anniversary with Pictorial Yearbooks

The Bahamas Billfish Championship kicked-off its 40th anniversary celebration by publishing five online ‘yearbooks’ with images of the people and events that made the Series memorable. According to Al Behrendt, BBC president, “There are over 2,600 images divided into five volumes that will transport viewers on a trip down memory lane in any decade they select.” Many of the images were digitized from old black and white photographs, negatives and 35mm film slides. “It is fascinating to see the contrast in boats and fishing tackle of the 1970’s and those of the last decade,” Behrendt added. Publishing the online yearbooks is the first in a series of promotions designed to call attention to the fact that the Bahamas Billfish Championship is the world’s oldest billfish tournament series.

Agape Eagles live up to the hype

The Championship games marking the end of the high school basketball season took place on the evening of Saturday, February 9 at Grace Gymnasium between Agape Christian School’s Eagles and Abaco Central High School’s Marlins, both in the junior and senior division. The Eagles won in both categories, defeating ACHS Junior team 34 to 31 and the senior team 57 to 32.

The Tony Moree National Gold Cup took place on Feb. 8-10 in Savannah Sound, Eleuthera, and the Abaco Dart Team was well represented. This year, Abaco brought home the gold.

Remote control sailboats kick-off the year in Marsh Harbour

Beautiful January weather was on tap for the first round of the RC Laser Tour of Abaco. Winds were unfortunately very light and out of an unfavorable location for this venue. However, there was a good turnout with two first timers: Cameron Sands and Thomas Key.

Abaco basketball players share their struggles, successes in college

Kevin Altidor and McDonald Jean-Louis stopped by for a visit over the holidays with Ishmael “Stretch” Morley at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture on Dec. 18. Kevin, who attended Abaco Central High School (ACH), and went on to graduate from C C Sweeting Senior High School in 2009, is currently in his final semester at Roane State Community College in Tennessee. He has plans to transfer to a four-year college sometime next year.

Coach Wayde Adderley and the senior boys basketball team from Agape Christian School attended the 38th Annual Catholic High Christmas Invitational Tournament in Grand Bahama on Dec. 12-15. Agape lost by two points against Eight Mile Rock High School in the championship game.

Eagles continue their success in the Eleuthera at Walter Bethel Invitational Basketball Tournament

The Agape Christian School Eagles came back from the Eleuthera Walter Bethel Invitational Basketball Tournament with a first and third place. Four of their players made the “All Tournament Team” and Coach Wayde Adderley was recognized as “Coach of the Tournament”.

Eagles post easy victory in first game of tournament

The first two games of the high school basketball season took place on November 14 at Agape Christian School’s Grace Gymnasium. The Agape Eagles took away an easy victory against the St Francis de Sales Tornadoes, in both the Junior and Senior categories. They won the first game 59-8 and the second one 71-25.

Bulldogs finish second in national softball championships

Last month, the Creter’s Bulldogs represented Abaco in the Men’s National Softball Championships held in New Providence. However, none of the Abaco women’s teams were represented this year.
