Regatta time in Abaco races on

Despite some contrary weather just days before the opening of the 39th Annual Regatta Time in Abaco (RTIA) about 30 sailboats sailed through the Sea of Abaco with two taking home the top overall trophies in the RTIA Class and the PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet) Class. Taking top honors overall, based on their finishes in the five Regatta races, was Abaco Glow – a 30 foot Pearson built in 1973. During the week of racing Abaco placed first in all five races giving them the hands down top spot in the PHRF Class.

Abaco Swim Club has Strong Showing at Nationals

The Abaco Swim Club (ASC) fared well at the Royal Bank of Canada National Championship in Nassau from June 14 – 17 bringing home 25 medals (12 silver and 13 bronze) from the competition. Eight-year-old Roman Pinder impressed earning runner up for the High-Point Trophy for eight and under Boys, the first swimmer for ASC to be awarded this trophy.

Albury Higgs Earns Top Honors

Margaret “Albury” Higgs continues to ‘bring home the gold’ earning the High Point trophy at both the Royal Bank of Canada National Championships and at the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships in June. At the RBC National Championships, which were held from June 14 to 17, Albury won ten gold medals and two silver medals along with three gold medals in relay events. Her efforts earned her the high Point trophy for 11-12 girls. “I think I did well at Nationals considering I had to go to CISC right afterwards,” Albury said.

Local basketball tournament showcases talent

The Agape Christian School’s team, the Eagles, coached by Wayde Adderley and Godfrey Rolle, plowed their way to victory by winning all the games they played in the Basketball Summer Tournament held at Grace Gymnasium. The championship game in the under 19 category took place Saturday night between the Eagles and the Harbour Island Panthers. It was a heated game with each team tied or within a point or two of each other throughout the game. A final basket by Monte Johnson in the last few seconds allowed the Eagles to claim the championship, winning over the Panthers 45 to 44.
