Leisure Lee Property Owners Association Donates to Fire Departments

By Mirella Santillo

To acknowledge and thank the local volunteers for their dedication in controlling fires and saving lives and property, Mrs. Cynthia Lockwood, Treasurer of the Leisure Lee Property Owners Association, visited three of the island’s Fire Stations to hand out the annual donation on behalf of the Leisure Lee Residents.

Accompanied by her husband Brian, she handed out a check for two thousand dollars to Colin Albury, Fire Chief of the Abaco Crash Fire and Rescue of Treasure Cay.

The couple then met in the afternoon with Marsh Harbour Fire Chief Danny Sawyer and his two Assistants, Shane Evans and Tim McDonald to give them  another two thousand dollar check.

The trio was very grateful and Mr. McDonald proudly discussed the Marsh Harbour Fire Department’s fleet which now boasts four working trucks, including the pink one used in many parades that he completely restored with donated parts.

The Marsh Harbour Department now also owns a bus carrying a 200gal pressure tank to reach difficult to access areas.

Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood then proceeded to continue on to Bahama Palm Shores to donate a one thousand dollar check to Fire Chief Bruce Smith and Assistant Luc Lavallee at the High Banks Volunteer Fire Service which also serves Casuarina Point.

The local firefighting services are operating on a volunteer basis with people manning the emergency telephones and fighting fires.
