Treasure Cay Resort’s Back to School Day, which offered many events for the local students, was organized by event coordinator Paula Morley and patronized by the resort’s manager, Stephen Kappeler.
Morley oversaw the activities and contacted the generous sponsors, some of them attending the event, such as Leanne Russell and Krista Albury representing Aliv and Gerry Summers with The Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company and Jimmy’s Wine and Spirits.
The children enjoyed games and activities such as the bouncing castle and water slide for a while before receiving bags filled with school supplies.
The activities resumed at 5pm in the evening at the Tipsy Seagull with dancing competitions and Karaoke singing moderated by DJ “KC.” The best dancers and singers were awarded with special prizes.
Several sponsors contributed to the success of the event. Aliv which had set-up a table at the entrance of the premises offered two items.
Three SC Bootle High School students were some of the lucky winners, rewarded for their dancing abilities. A J7 Samsung Cell Phone was won by Whitney Mitchell. Edreka Louis received a state-of-the-art Aliv Alcatel Link Zone.
Phillischar Francois was given an E-Reader Kindle, compliments of Commercial Laundry – a United States based company. The school bags were offered by Jimmy’s Wines and Spirits.
Two Treasure Cay Primary School’ students, Elea Paul and Elvin Mitchell, received backpacks complete with school supplies.
After praising the organizers and the sponsors who helped with the event, Stephen Kappeler pointed out the new ice cream section, Junkanoo Java, which still offers food but also several ice cream flavours as well as sundaes and floats.
He also said that most of the resort will stay open through fall this year, except for Spinnaker’s.
The Coco Bar will remain in business until September 23 but the Tipsy Seagull and the new Junkanoo Java Ice cream and food bar will stay opened every day.
He also mentioned enthusiastically that American Air Lines will start a service between Charlotte and Marsh Harbour on December 22.
