The 6th annual “Abaco Beach Blue Marlin Tournament” had 16 teams enter this big jackpot tournament hosted by the Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina, Bahamas on May 31-June 2, 2018.
This year produced a catch of 40 billfish (20 blue marlin, 14 white marlin, and 6 sailfish) released during then three consecutive days of fishing.
When it was over, it was the LO QUE SEA, a 58’ Paul Mann, who captured the overall ABACO BEACH BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENT title with three blue marlin releases, two sailfish and one white marlin. .
At the awards Saturday night , Captain Skip Smith handed the first place Bodo Muche trophy to the LO QUE SEA and owner Tony Huerta along with a check for $81,600. The other teammates included; Garrett Yarborough and Shane Surency. The Top Captain was Kevin Paul.
The largest marlin was caught by Bob Berg on the BAD DADDY a 76’ Spencer. The blue marlin weighed 603 pounds. The BAD DADDY received a check for $80,550. The team consisted of Capt. Jason “Tiny” Walcott, Jake Flynn, Bo Jenyns and Christopher Marshall.
The 68’ Hatteras, ASIAN PEARL took second place with 3 blue marlin, and received a check for $32,940.
In third place overall was the 70’ F&S, HIT N RUN. They also released 3 blue marlin and received an a check for $26,010. Other winners were MISS VICTORIA and WAVE PAVER each with a daily and each a check for $34,650, SONNY BOY won the largest Mahi division and received a check for $17,500.
The Top Angler was Tony Huerta owner of the LO QUE SEA and received an Bodo Muche marlin trophy.
Top Lady angler was Sarah McMahon of the NOTORIOUS with a blue marlin and a white marlin release.
Top Junior angler was Finn Sinclair with a white marlin release on the WAVE PAVER.
Tournament director, Captain Skip Smith issued commemorative plaques to the Diamond Sponsor SATCOM, Pipewelders, ZF Marine, Northern Lights, Garmin, HMY Yacht Sales, Smith-Merritt Insurance, Costa, Dometic, and Shimano.
With good fishing and the weather finally getting calm, all the events were topped off by incredible food and service in the air-conditioned tent provided by the staff at the Abaco Beach Resort. Combined with the best of the best boats, owners and crew.
The ABACO BEACH BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENT perpetual trophy is currently on display in the lobby of the Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina.
