Sun Oil Ltd. Organizes Back-to-School Extravaganza for Students

Sun Oil Limited – the Shell Licensee for The Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Islands – presented its 2nd Annual Back-to-School Extravaganza at Patrick J. Bethel High School on Aug. 26 from noon to 5 p.m.

The event was held for the first time in 2016.

According to Rufus Johnson, marketing manager for Sun Oil, they prepared 600 sets of school supplies after contacting the high school to determine the general population of the students enrolled there as well as additional supplies to cover students attending other schools. One hundred USB drives were also allotted for 12th grade students to use for coursework and exam preparation.

During the event, children were treated to free hamburgers and hot dogs with assorted chips, drinks, bags filled with notebooks and pencils, free haircuts for boys and hair braiding services for girls, and live entertainment by Lil Bones in collaboration with Lydell Ferguson of ‘Royalty Sound.’

Sun Oil also partnered with Colina Insurance Limited to provide basic medical services like blood pressure checks for students. Carlton Miller, marketing manager for Cash N’ Go, was on hand to set up the grills and prepare the hamburgers and hot dogs for the famished crowd. A few local ladies also pitched in to serve food and drinks to those in attendance.

“Abaco is one of Sun Oil’s markets where we have depot facilities available, so it is one of the communities we are always looking to support,” Johnson explained. “We’ve been here a long time, and our mantra is to continue to support the youth and the communities that keep us going throughout the year.

“We supported Regatta Time in Abaco as well, so we decided to come back after doing the giveaway last year, so that we could continue to support Abaco.”

Sun Oil Limited is an integrated energy supplier providing a complete range of quality petroleum products and services to retail and commercial sectors across a wide range of industries.
