We all have a place where we are most comfortable. Our favorite couch. A special blanket. A certain sweater. Our big cozy bed.
We even have our comfortable places in life. We park in the same spot. We sit in the same seat. We stay at the same job. We live in the same house.
We get scared to venture outside of what is comfortable to us.
There is a saying that nothing ever grows inside your comfort zone. This saying is so true when it comes to fitness.
“I don’t like to exercise.”
“I can’t do that move.”
“I don’t enjoy it.”
“I can’t go any further.”
These are all thoughts that come from living in our comfort zone.
In fitness, those who want to stay with only what is comfortable are generally those who won’t succeed.
It is impossible to grow if we only stay where we are most comfortable.
We have to change our mindset. We have to face our fears. We have to push ourselves. We have to venture outside of the comfortable if we want to succeed. We need to step outside of our comfort zones! That is the only way to grow.
You’ve seen the weight loss shows on t.v. The trainers are constantly pushing the contestants to overcome the things they feel they are incapable of doing. You have to face your fears, and do something you are not particularly comfortable doing if you want to grow.
Don’t like a workout? Try it.
Don’t feel you can walk or run any longer? Go just a few more steps.
Don’t feel you can accomplish a certain move? Just try!
You may surprise yourself!
Truth is, if we stay in the area where we are comfortable, we will plateau, never getting any better. And chances are we will give up, and we will never see what our bodies are capable of, which is such a shame… you would be surprised what your body is capable of!
We have to do one more push up than last time. We have to run one more mile than last time. We have to add more weight. We have to try that new move that we are so scared to do. We have to keep pushing ourselves. Our bodies will not grow stronger when left inside the comfort zone of our mind.
Nothing will ever grow inside of a comfort zone, including you.
