Softball games continued on the weekend of June 9-10 following the cancellation of games on June 1 because of rainy weather.
First up in Friday night’s games was the Lady Destroyers against the Lady Strikers. Pitching for the Destroyers was Laquina Nesbitt with Donneisha Strachan Penn pitching for the Lady Strikers. Third baseman Diana Strachan went 4-for-5 with 7 RBIs. As the dust settled, the Lady Destroyers were the winners with 18 runs, while the Lady Strikers garnered eight runs.
In the game between the 5 Star Ag & Turf Bulldogs and the Divine Construction Sharks, the winning pitcher was William “Lefty” Weatherford with a whopping 11 strikeouts leaving the Sharks to score no runs and no hits. Mark “Scrub” Douglas went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs. The final score was 7-0 with the Bulldogs emerging as the winners.
In Saturday night’s games, the Abaco women’s champions – Abaco Groceries Diamond Dollz – played against the Lady Destroyers. In the first inning, the Destroyers would score their only three runs for the night to be beaten by the Diamond Dollz’ 13 runs. Left fielder, Kim Rolle, went 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs. The winning pitcher was Tracey Albury.
In the final game, the Latema Boys Constructionairs faced the Nagico Insurance Sluggers. With Oscar “Togo” Rolle pitching for the Constructionairs, Rolle delivered eight strikeouts with six hits and seven runs in total. Joshua Rolle went 3-for-3 with one home run and 7 RBIs. Constructionairs beat the Sluggers: 12-7.
This weekend, softball action continues with the Sluggers vs. the Sharks at 8 p.m. and Constructionairs vs. Bulldogs at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 16. The Constructionairs face the Sluggers on Saturday, June 17 at 8 p.m. followed by the Sharks vs. Bulldogs at 9 p.m.
Next weekend, Lady Strikers and Diamond Dollz play at 8 p.m. and the Bulldogs and Sluggers at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 23. On Saturday, June 24, the Diamond Dollz battle it out on the field with the Lady Strikers at 8 p.m., then the Constructionairs and the Sharks play at 9 p.m.
The Abaco Softball Association’s (ASA) June Softball Tournament begins on June 29 and ends on July 1 with teams from various islands coming to play on Abaco during that weekend at the Murphy Town Ball Field.
