Basketballers Fly High in BTC Slam Dunk Competition

The best and brightest of Abaco’s Basketball community put on a high-flying spectacle for the Abaco Basketball Association’s annual night of competition on February 18, 2017. Basketball Enthusiasts on Abaco turned out in their numbers at the Ocean View Park to take in the sights and sounds of the fierce three-point shoot and highly contested Slam Dunk competitions!

“Sports have always played an important role in the development of our young people. Basketball is one of those sports teaches you life lessons as well. We fall, we rise and we stand together and that message is very important to the development of any community” explained President of the Abaco Basketball Association Carson Mitchell.

It was that commitment to community which prompted BTC to come on board as a major sponsor of the event. The company has long devoted time and resources to the ongoing development of sports in the Bahamas.

“BTC believes in having a presence in the communities and we will continue to build good relationships. This is BTC country and we are showing that one community at a time!” explained Caroline Young-Forbes of BTC’s Abaco Enterprise. “We believe in our youth and will continue to remind them that we have their back and that we are rooting for them, giving them the opportunity to bring out the best in themselves,” she said.

Company representatives were on hand for the event with goody bags filled with branded items and promotional phone cards. The competitions were held simultaneously, leaving the floor open to whoever wanted to participate. More than eight talented players came forward for each division but only of individual would be victorious in each category.

After an exciting round of play, Lorenzo Davis was crowned in the three-point shoot-out. The highlight of the night was the show stopping slam dunks spectacular put on by Slam Dunk Contest winner Chauncey Cooper who wowed the audience by using his own car as a prop. From the half court mark, Cooper jumped over the parked vehicle to land the winning dunk much to the amazement of the crowd.
