Sandy Point Youngsters Enjoy Swimming and Basketball Camps

On July 15-16, a swimming camp was held by Local Government from the Sandy Point Township, led by Mancer Roberts, who is involved in the Abaco Swimming Club, and his two sons and daughter.

It was Roberts’ desire to once again join in with Local Government to teach the children of the community how to swim and the techniques of swimming.

On July 18-22 a basketball camp was held under the leaderships of Sharon “The General” Storr and Doniell “Donnie” Culmer.

This week of activities included classroom and practical sessions. Youngsters were exposed to the safety aspects of swimming, the opportunities of swimming and basketball, and the overall sporting experience.

This year had a great turn out, with approximately fifty boys and girls between the two summer camps.

Brothers Mancer Jr. and Meshach conducted demonstrations and gave instructions followed by a friendly race between the camp participants.

Sandy Point Chairman Arthur Lightbourne described the camp as outstanding and said that he is looking forward to next year’s camp.
