Eric Sands

On May 2, 2016 Eric Sands received a major surprise at his workplace. At 2pm, a crowd of family, friends, old Abaco Central High schoolmates and representatives of the Ministry of Education stunned him as they came into Abaco Groceries in Marsh Harbour. Dr. Lenora Black, District Superintendent of Education, congratulated Eric on the completion of his BGCSE – overcoming great challenges with the aid of his Art Teacher. She informed Eric that they had arranged for him to be tutored under nationally-renowned artist Anthony “Big Mo” Morley. Before making remarks, Eric was serenaded by a duet from ACH students.

Eric has made a name for himself over the years for his artwork including recognition at past Art for the Parks and a sponsorship from the Hummingbird Cottage Art Center. Eric’s mother said his talent was present even from a young age when she first saw a remarkable portrait he had sketched of his great grandfather.
