A Family Empowerment Summit was held at Change Ministries International under the theme – “Unlocking the Door to your Destiny” – on April 1-2. The summit was hosted by an energetic team called Full Potential Bahamas from Jubilee Cathedral, which is located in Grand Bahama.
The objectives of the summit were to assist men in recognizing their value and role in society; to foster partnerships between the family and the community to equip individuals with the tools necessary to walk in their full potential; and to challenge individuals to be positive role models ensuring the preservation of the next generation.
The first night was designated as Family Night. President Laquez Williams of Full Potential Bahamas hosted the event, and following opening remarks, he instructed everyone to go off into groups for a private discussion. In their individual groups, women and men were encouraged by the words of the Scripture, and were reminded to “know who they are, whose they are and their purpose.”
The groups reconnected to listen to a panel discussion onstage, which was comprised of Minister John Darville; Pastor Silbert Mills; Rev. K. Brian Sands; Pastor Deion Gibson; and K.C. Ewing. The men spoke in depth on matters pertaining to family, relationships, parenting and business.
The following day, primary and high school students were invited to attend the summit where lots of prizes and giveaways were distributed. While many children walked away with free computers, clothes and footwear, the greatest gift they were given was the knowledge that they can reach their full potential and fulfill their true purpose in life.
According to its Web site, Full Potential has become one of the country’s leading organizations focusing solely on the mentorship and empowerment of boys ages 13-18 since 2012. Through local and international partnerships, they spearhead initiatives such as an annual mentorship program, summer and after-school programs, educational workshops, summits, and motivational forums.
