Terrance Rodgers with the Department of Forestry visited several schools during the month of March to awaken students’ awareness towards the environment. His mission was to plant a tree in several schools on the island.
Before planting a tree in each school he visited, Mr. Rodgers held a classroom session during which he explained the role of trees in maintaining a healthy environment.
His first stops were in South Abaco at Cherokee Sound’s and Sandy Point’s Primary schools. Treasure Cay Primary School was next on March 18, then on March 21 Abaco Central High School and Central Abaco Primary School.
Fox Town Primary School and the two schools in Cooper’s Town were to complete his list the following day.
Mr. Rodgers said that he chose trees that “can give back” such as Coco Plum or Sea grapes, only to mention a couple.
