The Abaco Flag Football League’s second season is well underway and the competition, much like the weather, is heating up.
The second weekend of action saw a number of exciting games and some great play, and it has been determined early that there will be no undefeated men’s team this year.
On Saturday, March 12 the Titans from Green Turtle Cay took on the Pirates in an incredibly competitive game. The Titans battled back and forth early with the Pirates and eventually took a two score lead; however, the Pirates fought back taking the lead and staving off the last minute surge by the Titans. Final score, Titans 30 – Pirates 32.
In the second game the Tigers faced the Chargers in a lopsided match. The Tigers grabbed the lead early and never looked back. Final score Tigers 41 – Chargers 8.
On Sunday, March 12, the Tigers took on the Pirates in an extremely close meeting that was determined in the closing minutes of the game when the Pirates scored the final touchdown of the game lifting them over the Tigers for their second straight victory. Pirates 27 – Tigers 19.
In the second game of the day the Hollywood Superstarz from Hope Town took on the defending Champs, the Dragons in what was expected to be a tough match. The Superstarz took an early lead and staved off the Dragons attempts to come back beating them soundly. Superstarz 33 – Dragons 18.
In the final game of the weekend the defending Champions, the Panthers took on the newly formed Firebirds in a back and forth game. The Firebirds scored last and stopped the Panthers’ final effort to come back. Firebirds 24 – Panthers 18.
The third week action also saw some great competition. On Saturday March 19, the Titans took on the Superstarz which saw the Titans capture the lead early and kept pounding until the end, beating the Superstarz 42 to 21.
In the second game the Pirates took on the Chargers who kept the game close in the first half, but in the second half the Pirates stifled the chargers offense and won 26 to 6.
On Sunday the Tigers took on the Sharks in a game that was lopsided early in the end the Tigers captured the win in convincing fashion 42 to 13.
In the final game of the weekend in the Women’s division the Firebirds fought a tight battle with the resilient Divas, but a final touchdown by the Firebirds gave them a one score lead at the end and the win, defeating the Divas 27 to 20.
