Dear Editor,

We’ve been coming to the Abacos every winter for 14 years.  What keeps us coming back?  The beautiful islands and waters? Sure. The active social life and many friends? Absolutely.  But now we’re reminded there are other subtler and deeper attractions. Let us tell about one great example in the person of Preston Jones an employee of Abaco Beach Resort.

While walking back to our boat with visitors from Michigan after a very pleasant meal at Abaco Beach Resort’s Anglers Restaurant we heard an urgent call. “Stop! Stop!” a voice said.  It was Preston Jones who had served us at Anglers.  “Who was drinking Merlot?” he asked.  We immediately worried that there was a problem with our bill.  Did we not pay for the Merlot?  When our friend acknowledged that it was he who had ordered the Merlot, Preston reached into his pocket and handed over $350.00 to him.  “Here” he said.  “You dropped this money and I want to return it to you.”

Surely, your Letters to the Editor column is an important service for pointing out problems which need to be addressed, but we wish to acknowledge the wonderful experiences also part of life in the Abacos.  And to publicly say, Thank You, Preston!
