Cherokee Seniors Luncheon

The students and faculty of Cherokee Primary School invited the elderly, the handicapped, widows and widowers to a Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 26. Twenty some persons showed up at noon in The W.W. Sands Community Center in the schoolyard to partake of turkey, mashed potato, stuffing with gravy, corn, cranberry jelly, buns, pumpkin rolls and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious and the special decorations set a festive mood.

The school children welcomed the guests. First the younger students in grades one to three, then the older group grades four to six recited Thanksgiving poems and sang some songs and served the food as well.

They even stayed around to clean up afterwards.

Many of those who came to the luncheon do not get out often and it was a great opportunity to visit with neighbours and there was plenty of time to catch up with old friends and discuss all the latest news as well as remember past Thanksgiving Lunches.  Some didn’t attend, but they were not forgotten.  To-Go plates were prepared and delivered all around the settlement to those who could not get out.

A little rain shower passed over quickly, but did not interrupt the program.  The children escaped from their usual classroom studies, the guests enjoyed a good meal and a good time was had by all.
