During the July 4th weekend, Scotland Cay held the Inaugural ‘Scales For Tails’ fishing tournament to benefit the Abaco Shelter. The event was hosted by Marlana Bethel and Kelly Wissing and assisted by other volunteers who work with the Potcake rescue effort.

The event was kicked off Friday evening at the Captain’s Meeting where our anglers signed up and enjoyed food, drink, and music along with a lot of good natured, pre-tournament ribbing. Lines were in the water by 6:30 a.m. Saturday and all anglers met back in the marina for weigh-in by 4 p.m.

The tournament included a number of junior anglers, three of which were on the winning team and received their own prize.

The event proved to be a huge success and over $3000 was raised to help with the cost of fencing that the Abaco Shelter needs to purchase. The tournament was capped off Saturday evening with a big picnic and fish fry in the lagoon followed by a beautiful display of fireworks. The winners were awarded their prizes which were provided by sponsors: Abaco Inn, Nippers, Orchid Bay, Audrey Slevin, Marine Connection, Boatstore USA, Ty Roth, and Don Ray Gear.

The First Place winners were “Team Priva-Sea,” second place- “Team Martini”, and third place- “Team Hellova-Place.”

Organizers wish to extend “a HUGE thank you to our Event Sponsor ‘Old Salt Fishing Foundation’ who jumped on board to help the Abaco Shelter raise money and awareness. Here’s looking forward to the 2016 Scales for Tails Fishing Tournament!”
