The 45th Abaco Anglers Fishing Tournament was held on April 16-24. The Awards Banquet took place the evening of April 24 at the Hope Town Inn and Marina. The fun tournament has Men’s’, Women’s’ and Juniors’ divisions.
The banquet featured a raffle as well as prizes for different sized catches. Throughout the tournament, anglers reeled in dolphins, wahoo and even barracuda. They were awarded with sculpture handcrafted by local artist – Pete Johnson.
The Anglers Tournament was started 45 years ago by Roscoe Thompson Sr., so it was fitting this year for his son, Roscoe Thompson III. Mr. Thompson thanked the anglers and event organizers and explained how the purpose of the Tournament is to pass along a love for fishing to the younger generation.
In keeping with that theme, event organizer Linda Knowles announced that next year her daughter, Ashley, would take over production of the yearly tournament.
