Najah’s Salon and Spa

By Canishka Alexander

Najah’s Salon and Spa has been owned and operated by Bernadette “Bernie” Davis since October 1, 2010. Full spa services include massages, facials, full-body waxing, Caucasian hairstyling, weaving, pedicures and manicures, cuts and colours, and wedding packages.

The staff at Najah’s are all certified: Bernadette Davis is the nail technician; Tamiyra Stubbs, hairstylist; Ginger Parker-Balfour, hairstylist; Khadijah Winters, hairstylist; and Rudell Hall, massage therapist and aesthetician.

Bernie owned a similar business in Grand Bahama, so when she relocated to Abaco six years ago, she wanted to offer the same service.

“There was no place here catering to a full-spa experience, so I wanted to offer a service where people could have everything done in one place,” she reflected.

At Najah’s, clients are welcomed to a relaxed atmosphere with personable staff, and served a complimentary wine, coffee, tea or water while they are attended to.

Najah’s Salon and Spa is located in the Abaco Shopping Center next to Fidelity Bank. Business hours are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Telephone contact: 367-1250 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 1 (242) 553-4144, which is available 24 hours a day.

Nourish Bistro

By Canishka Alexander

A grand opening was held last month for Nourish Bistro, a Jamaican restaurant and bistro that is located in the Abaco Shopping Centre. The menu has a delicious selection of curry chicken, oxtail and beans, jerk chicken/pork, Jamaican Escovitch fish, Jamaican rice and peas, boiled green banana, yam and ackee and saltfish.

Although the Garden of Life health store is closing, Florinda said that the smoothie bar will still remain opened.  Nourish Bistro also serves a light menu of grilled paninis, wraps, salads and soups. Daily specials of $1 lemonade or iced tea are also available.

So far, she said customers have really been enjoying the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant with mostly Bahamian customers who dine there.

“You can get Bahamian food everywhere, but here we have an authentic Jamaican restaurant,” Florinda said. “You won’t be able to find any fried chicken or any greasy food here because we are health conscious, so we use only MSG free seasoning and all natural homemade seasoning.”

Nourish Bistro can seat 24 customers presently, but once the health store closes, it will accommodate 40 people. Florinda is looking to introduce a couples’ special featuring a four-course meal with a glass of wine or beverage as a choice, and a family special where children will also be included and catered to.

Business hours are: Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays.  Phone number: 1(242)699-2144.
