Miller Albury and Joshua Wong, AKA “The Blues Brothers”, who attend the Asheville School in North Carolina, were instrumental in the AS Boys Swim Team achieving a 3rd place finish at the 2015 NCISAA State Championship in February (the team’s best finish in 18 years).
Joshua came away with a Bronze medal in the 100 SCY Breaststroke with a time of 101.55, was a member of the Silver medal winning 200 SCY Freestyle Relay Team and earned a silver in the 200 SCY Medley Relay team.
Miller narrowly missed a bronze medal in the 100 SCY Backstroke by 1/100ths of a second with a time of 54.87, setting new school record in this event and joined Joshua with a silver medal on the 200 scy Medley Relay team.
The following weekend, a handful of elite swimmers travelled to Cary, NC to compete against older, more experienced swimmers from across the state of North Carolina; very stiff competition with hundreds of swimmers participating in each event.
Miller made finals in 3/5 of his individual events, posting personal best times in all 5 events, additionally setting 3 new school records (50 free, 100 back, 100 fly). Joshua made individual finals in the 100 scy breast, and finished each event he swam with personal best times.
This was Miller’s 2nd appearance at a large USA Swimming Meet and Joshua’s 1st experience, and they were both pleased with their performances. Both swimmers continue to train through an exceptional swim program set up for them at Asheville School as the official swim season has now concluded.
The swimmers are now looking forward to participating in The Bahamas National Swimming Championships in Nassau in June 2015.
