The Committee Members of the Abaco Church Sporting Association held a meeting to schedule the beginning of its basketball season, now in its third year.

This year, boys intending to participate in the church league basketball games are asked to attend a conference that will open at 9:30 for registration in the morning of March 21.

Following the registration there will be several presentations by keynote speakers who will address topics such as hygiene, preparing oneself for life, getting ready for job interviews as well as filling out applications for college or jobs and conducting oneself in the community.

Communications will be sent to all the churches and schools to invite coaches or church leaders to participate in the conference that will last until approximately 3 pm. It will be held at Zion Baptist Church in Murphy Town. A light lunch will be served.

The conference will mark the start of the third annual Sherwood Simms Basketball Tournament with the first game taking place the same day, March 21 at 7pm. The tournament will run until April with a break during the examinations period.

The Summer league of the Abaco Church Sporting Association will kick off after the examinations are over in the middle of May with games played all through the Summer. Most games will take place in the evening at the Zion Baptist Church basketball court from Thursday to Saturday except for invitational games to other settlements of the island.

An Easter Classic Tournament dedicated to the memory of James A Pritchard will be held in Spring City during the Easter weekend.

The President of the Abaco Church Sporting Association is Pastor Everett Strachan of Zion Baptist Church. The Secretary is Mrs. Karen Rolle also with Zion Baptist Church.

Members include Mr. Cubel Davis with Victory Tabernacle, Mr. Ernie Pritchard with Zion Baptist in Fire Road, Mr. Ishmael “Stretch” Morley and Mrs. Chevon Mackey with Friendship Tabernacle, Mr. Elliot Burrows with Crossing Rocks Native Baptist, Pastor Tinker with Spring City Faith Revival Mission, Pastor Emmett Archer with Youth Ministries, Mr. Robin Lachance with Church of God of Prophecy, Mr. Randy Davis with Change Ministry International, Pastor Dean with Zion Baptist and Mr. Christopher Wright.

Mr. Gilbert Davis and Mr. Chris Smith will act as officials during the games. More information can be obtained from the office of the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Culture at 699 0229.
