The Bahamas is a well-renowned vacation destination, and thanks to the Ministry of Tourism’s 16 Weddings, 16 Islands, One Priceless Day promotion, couples were given the opportunity to exchange their vows in paradise.
More than 3,000 couples competed for the dream wedding package by sharing their love story and why they wanted to get married in The Bahamas on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
The Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Tourism, stated in a press release that the promotion would “serve as a platform to showcase The Islands of The Bahamas as the premier destination in the region for romance – weddings, honeymoons, vow renewals and romantic escapes.”
Last month, Pierre Alex Demosthene and Wanjira Banfield of Boston, Massachusetts were among 15 others couples to arrive in Nassau on Jan. 13. However, Pierre and Wanjira were en route to Abaco for their wedding day that Saturday on Hope Town, and accompanying them were Sudi Freeman Elliot and Jason Harewood as friends and witnesses for the special occasion.
Winning couples received a package that included round-trip airfare, lavish hotel accommodations with meals, a wedding ceremony and reception for four, cash rewards from MasterCard®, a Mon Cheri bridal dress designed by David Tutera or Sophia Tolli, wedding rings by Steven Singer Jewelers, a tuxedo from 1888mytuxes.com and gift bags from John Bull.
The couple was excited about travelling to The Bahamas, and Wanjira said that Abaco was as beautiful as she imagined it would be. Certainly, the endless smiles on their faces said it all.
The group was escorted by Tourism’s Kendy Anderson and Videographer Randy Curry, and Natasha Albury of Hope Town Harbour Lodge greeted them upon their arrival.
Pastor Silbert Mills officiated the “You Light Up My Life” themed wedding, which took place at 1600 hours on Jan. 16. Despite the rain showers, the Elbow Reef Lighthouse provided a charming backdrop for the special occasion held at Hope Town Harbour Lodge.
