Over the past several months residents have expressed dismay over the conditions at the Marsh Harbour Clinic. A few have contacted The Abaconian upset about what they have seen at the tax-payer funded health facility.
Of particular note is the situation in the restroom facilities.
The facilities are run down with a toilet in the women’s restroom out of order and covered with a cardboard box, a broken stall door and generally being, as one resident who contacted The Abaconian described it, “below standards and a health hazard.”
The women’s restroom has been in this state for six months.
Hundreds of persons seek medical care at the Government Clinic each week.
Patients are not the only persons to notice conditions at the local clinic. Nurses have walked off in strike in the past in response to “unsanitary conditions,” most recently in September of 2011.
The local administrator was unprepared to comment regarding the clinic’s budget and maintenance contracts and instead deferred to administration in Nassau. The relevant authorities were unable to be reached as of press time though several attempts were made.
While the situation at the clinic seems to continue to deteriorate, no official word has come in regarding the opening of the multi-million dollar new health facility located next to the Government Complex. That project has languished due to non-payment to the contractors.
