Alex Klahm, Metal Architect and lighthouse specialist from St Petersburg, FL along with his crew are currently restoring and making repairs to the Elbow Reef Lighthouse in Hope Town. Among the repairs being made are re-installing the permanent ladder and trapdoor, changing the rusted gutters, installing new security posts and replacing cracked glass panels.
During these repairs for the next few weeks mariners should be aware that the Lighthouse may be dimmed or off entirely.
A Lighthouse Symposium of Support is planned for January 29 and 30 in Hope Town to raise funds for the preservation and restoration of the Lighthouse.
The Elbow Reef Lighthouse is the only hand-wound kerosene burning lighthouse remaining in the world.
