Third Year for Turtle Trot

Turtle Trot

Friends of the Environment held the Third Annual Turtle Trot in Hope Town and their first ever in Marsh Harbour on November 27 and 30 respectively with nearly one hundred persons participating between the two events.

Friends Program Coordinator, Olivia Patterson, said that the run was inspired by the Turkey Trot 5k runs held in the United States on Thanksgiving Day. She said “the Abaco Turtle Trot event was created to provide an opportunity for families to participate in a fun and safe outdoor event while supporting marine conservation in Abaco.”

All funds raised from the Abaco Turtle Trots go directly to environmental education in Abaco; teaching kids about the importance of healthy and sustainable marine resources.

This was the third annual Turtle Trot in Hope Town and the first one in Marsh Harbour.

Olivia said “Hope Town has seen many repeat participants and we look forward to the same in Marsh Harbour! 72 people participated in Hope Town and 25 in Marsh Harbour.”

She said that the event was made possible by sponsorships from H.G. Christie Realty, Family Medicine, Abaco Inn, Abaco Petroleum, Elbow Cay Properties, Hope Town Inn and Marina, Java, Hummingbird Galleries, Islands by Design, Ministry of Tourism, and Marsh Harbour Exporters and Importers
