With the desire to spark more interest and to develop young people in the sport, North Abaco Member of Parliament, Renardo Curry, brought the Jackie Conyers Volleyball Camp to Abaco with a two day training camp on December 5 and 6.

Mr. Curry says they want to target young players “so we can develop them at an early age teaching them the fundamentals of volleyball.”

Jackie Conyers, a Bahamian volleyball star, works closely with Atlanta Boom, a volleyball institute based in Georgia and was accompanied by two of their coaches Del and Arleen Hughes.

They have conducted camps in Nassau and Grand Bahama and for the first time this year came to Abaco and Mr. Curry expects it will become an annual event.

Mr. Curry said that this is a part of his vision and plan to develop a number of sporting disciplines in Abaco. He said that volleyball can become an avenue to providing scholarship for Abaco youth in the future.
