Marques Williams recently announced that the soft launch for the Next Phenom sports social media network will be held next week on Thanksgiving Day – Nov. 27.

A former international student-athlete, Williams said that the mission of Next Phenom is to become the premier online source for aspiring athletes, to encourage youth interest in sports, and to bridge the gap between athletes and sports managers by creating a secure online sporting community that provides quality entertainment for all.

According to Williams, Next Phenom was a concept that began in 2008 in New York while he was enrolled at SUNY Maritime College.

“The inspiration came from two issues. The first issue occurred when a number of athletes complained that they had scholarship options from other colleges, but because their high school coach had a connection with the college, they were only presented with that particular option,” he explained. “The second issue was when I as a walk-on to the basketball team realized there were persons recruited on the team, but because I lived in The Bahamas, the likelihood of being recruited was significantly lower than it was for the New York high school athletes.

“Whether true or not, these issues presented a potential problem,” he reasoned.

With that in mind, Next Phenom is poised to revolutionize the amateur sporting industry especially in countries that do not have established amateur athlete programmes and will host sporting events and camps worldwide. The programmes will bring further recognition to athletes and introduce them to sports that they may have never considered.

Williams added: “This also provides talented athletes, who live in areas where it would be difficult for their skills to be seen, the ability to reach persons that can make decisions that can change their lives forever. It also serves as a community for athletes to compare themselves or just communicate with other athletes.”

The site is not limited to any specific sport, so Williams has been communicating with local and international coaches as well as athletes in a variety of sports disciplines. Now coaches can go online and access video and photo uploads of the athlete they are interested in and make direct contact with them.

Additionally, the service provided by Next Phenom is at no cost to athletes or coaches because the overall idea is to promote athletic talent in all sports and provide numerous opportunities for athletes.

“We want to maximize the exposure for the aspiring athlete, so athletes can upload as many of their sports videos as they want,” he said.  “If you want sports managers to find you, NextPhenom.com is the Web site to add your profile and videos to. Additionally, Next Phenom allows users to transfer their uploaded video content from YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, etc. to their Next Phenom profile in seconds.”

Keep track of Next Phenom’s progress as the next generation of phenomenal athletes are discovered. The name says it all: Next Phenom.
