CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank Manager Iris Henchell presented Jo-Ann Bradley of the Abaco Cancer Society with a cheque of $6,950 on Nov. 21.

Henchell explained that, annually, FCIB raises funds for cancer organizations by allowing their clients to make monetary donations through their Dollar Drive at the bank or by approaching corporate Bahamas for gift donations. Those donations are later raffled off to raise funds for the Abaco Cancer Society. The bank also organized a car wash.

She said that FCIB raised larger amounts of money in Nassau and decided to split the amount collected among FCIB branches in the capital, Eleuthera and Abaco. Nevertheless, Henchell was enthused by this year’s donation because it doubled what was given last year to the Cancer Society.

“It speaks volumes of how people are really looking seriously at cancer prevention,” she said. “Our bank’s goal and focus is on prevention.”

She added that for FCIB it is important for the community to see that it is an entity that not only takes but gives back.

“We are being a good corporate citizen by giving back, so we do what we can.”
