Health Hazard in Murphy Town

Murphy Town Dump

Dear Editor;

The Government installed a dumpster on Forrest Drive Way, the east / west road at the north end of Murphy Town to service the Great Cistern communities in place of weekly  garbage truck pick-ups.

Clearly whether the bin is full or empty, there is a continual reckless dumping of appliances, hot water tanks, furniture, and bags of garbage strewn all over the area.

This matter has been addressed locally with the Murphy Town Representative, Mr. Shawn Simms and Area Administrator, Mr. Preston Cunningham. Both of whom agreed that this was a deplorable health hazard. A year has passed since those conversations, and clearly conditions have only worsened.

Based on the current state of affairs…there is a drastic need for better responsibility and follow through from our local government officials.

Placing blame and excuses on garbage contract issues, as was stated, can no longer be tolerated. We are facing health / disease issues that are escalating out of control.

Elected Officials…Please Take Ownership To Your Responsibilities.

  1. What a nasty hole, you people have really turn the Bahamas into your personal trash can. My family and I just returned from Abaco after not visiting since 1999 and we couldn’t believe how much this island has changed for the worst. God gave you a beautiful place to live and you disrespect him by X all over it, what a shameful culture you are, we will never step foot in the Bahamas again, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
