The Auskell Fitness Centre has expanded its range of classes to include a Healthy Lifestyle Class. This class takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is led by Elaine Pilon. Ms. Pilon is a qualified Cardiac Nurse who has worked in Internal Medicine and Cardio in the United States. She is also a certified Yoga instructor and has taught yoga and Pilates classes for many years.
The Monday evening class begins with a talk on nutrition during which participants are given information on how to eat properly to become and remain healthy throughout their lives. The rest of the session is taken up with yoga and Pilates and the entire Wednesday session is devoted to yoga and Pilates exercises. This is a beginner class so no previous experience is necessary, just a desire to get fit and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“Yoga and Pilates are basically alike in the sense that both include stretching. Pilates is working with the center core to trim and strengthen the stomach muscles and the only big difference between that and yoga is that yoga involves holding postures,” explains Ms. Pilon.
Ms. Pilon states that her classes can do a lot for people with hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol. She stresses, however, that she does not treat these problems but only gives guidance and anybody with a medical problem must follow their doctor’s advice. The combination of eating correctly and exercising can also result in desired weight loss. Her recommendation to everyone is that; “Everybody should include diet and exercise in their lifestyle.”
A maximum of ten people is all that Ms. Pilon will accept in the Healthy Lifestyle Class and the number is already up to eight so anybody who is interested in joining should call the Auskell Clinic at 367 0020 in order to sign up.
