ABACO DISTRICT BACK TO SCHOOL MESSAGE 2012/2013

Dr. Lenora Black
Dr. Lenora Black, Abaco District Superintendent of Education, hopes to continue the growth and development of Abaco’s students while striving for higher goals.

With a renewed sense of commitment to the children of the Abaco District in particular and by extension those of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, I greet you on the threshold of yet another exciting year; one that holds great promise for our children.

Throughout the past year, Administrators, Teachers, Technical Officers, parents/guardians and concerned stakeholders have combined their efforts to ensure the success of our children. Successes have been many yet they served as but an indication of what is possible when we unite around a common goal.

With the former in mind, then, we must continue to reach farther and do what is necessary right now so as to ensure the continued growth and development of our various communities beginning first with our children.

Assured of your continued support of the varied initiatives of our Department, kindly accept our appreciation for your on-going support as we seek to build schools and communities stronger, more productive and civilized despite the perplexing times in which we live.

Knowing the splendid performances of many students of our District during the past school year, permit me to express thanks on the behalf our District Office and School Personnel who highly value the support of parents and the Abaco Community. As a District at large, we have every right to be extremely pleased with the performance of numerous students in both Government Maintained and Privately Operated Schools throughout the Abacos. While we rightly celebrate, know that there are yet many opportunities which we must embrace to further improve our educational system.

With the former in mind, I, therefore, pause to encourage all parents to ensure that each home becomes an extension of the school. Parents and Guardians alike must endeavor to create a stable, nurturing environment where learning can take place beyond the four walls of the classroom on a daily basis.

Further, parents and guardians are encouraged to become enthusiastically involved in the varied activities at their child’s/children’s school thereby building a strong bond with teachers and administrators. This, parents/guardians, could only hasten the realization of the District’s ‘One Goal’ of ‘Excellence for Each Student in Each Classroom in Each School’ to become a reality indeed.

Additional, I am hopeful that all stakeholders in the Abaco District would make a lasting commitment to the success of this nation by playing an even greater role in the success of our schools. Kindly remember, partners, the future will outlast all of us. However, we will all be duty-bound to live in the future that each of us creates.

In conclusion, I encourage all students to seize every opportunity to maximize their God given potential. Know that there is full access to education in our Bahamaland, therefore, there is no justification for anyone not to do well. Know that the future of our country belongs to those who diligently take the time to prepare for it today. By the grace of Almighty God, I have all confidence to believe that the new school year 2012 – 2013 will be a bright one indeed as we seek to’ Foster Competence, Character and Citizenship in Pursuit of Excellence in Education’.

That the Abaco District will continue to attain abundant successes, I have no doubt!
